Combining Music and Meditation: An online study to investigate the mental health benefits of Tamarkoz meditation and music

Thank you for your interest in this study. This short survey will be used to determine your eligibility in this research. Your information will be kept confidential and will never be sold to a third party. If you qualify for the study, you will receive an email with further details.

This research study is being conducted by the Sufi Psychology Association, which has been using Tamarkoz®, a Sufi meditation method, in hospitals and universities across the globe. This evidence-based practice is a user-friendly method consisting of breathing exercises, meditative movements, meditation, and visualizations which allow beginners to learn how to meditate and relieve stress.

This study will pair the practice of Tamarkoz with curated music from the Zendeh Delan® ensemble with the hypothesis that music will enhance the positive effects of the Tamarkoz method, with respect to positive emotions, mindfulness, stress, fatigue, and anxiety.

Participants in this study will be virtually guided through the Tamarkoz meditation by videos provided weekly. Through this practice, participants will learn how to meditate as the Tamarkoz method is great for beginners. This invaluable tool of quieting one's mind and focusing will be something participants can use for the rest of their lives.

The time commitment for this study is three 20-minute Tamarkoz sessions per week for 6 weeks. In addition, 15 to 20 minutes to fill out questionnaires before and after the study.

There are 9 questions in this survey.
